In the SCA I am known as Osric. Yes, just Osric. I haven’t registered my name in twenty plus years so haven’t accumulated the extra material needed. Osric is an Anglo-Saxon warrior (a huscarl actually, but I avoid the name as it is a title in some kingdoms) of indeterminate period.
As originally conceived he was being a veteran of Hastings and the First Crusade. One interesting side effect of this was I was portraying someone who is older than me to this day. That concept of Osric would have been around forty-five as conceived while I was in my twenties at the time.
After drifting out of the SCA in the late nineties I have recently gotten active. I’ve been pulled in two directions. One would move Osric back about 175 years to be a veteran of Athelstan’s unification campaigns. He formative adult battle would move from the Siege of Jerusalem to the Battle of Brunanburh. The other, which would probably encourage a name change as well, is to move forward to Wars of the Roses.
